Unlike many other genres and music communities, the indie/alt culture appreciates new and rising artists that create diversity and new insights within the genre. We constantly feature notable indie and alternative artists on the verge of success. Meet this week’s featured artist in an exclusive interview, The Modern Strangers:

What are your fondest musical memories?
Writing our first song 'Margarita' over Christmas is a great memory. We wrote it for fun, no pressure for it to become anything and it worked really well for us. We're trying to use that method going forward.
Lately what musical periods or styles do you find yourself most drawn to as a listener?
With The Modern Strangers we wanted to make 2016's version of 70's disco songs. We've recently been going to this club which plays 70's music all night, maybe that had something to do with it. They're catchy, funny and easy to dance to, that's what we're going for.
What is your creative process like? How do you approach the writing process?
This is the first ever song we've written as The Modern Strangers, we wrote it over Christmas for fun and with no intention of releasing it. We woke up in the morning and decided we wanted it online. So we came up with the band name over the next few weeks, finished the song off and released it to stream! We're going to try and have this approach with all our future songs.
As an indie artist in the digital age, social media and streaming are essential tools for marketing and promotion. What do you think about online music sharing, both as a music fan and as a musician? How do you think social media/music streaming services impacts the rising musician?
We're fine with streaming, it's how we listen to music and how most people we know listen to music. As long as people still come to gigs and don't start watching them online with virtual reality head sets, it's all going to be okay.
What is your dream collaboration and why?
We want to work with Ice Cube. Big inspiration.
What are you currently working on? Any new projects?
Currently writing the follow up to 'Margarita'.
Thanks once again to The Modern Strangers for talking with us. We cannot wait to hear more from this duo, following their amazing debut in Margarita. Be sure to keep up to date with the group via the following social links.
