How do you capture the current soundscape in indie music while remaining inventive and original? Just ask Los Angeles' own Forebear, since that's exactly the experience they resonate in their latest single, People's Champ. It's quite incredible how they weave a psych-folk undercurrent, with stimulating classical strings that reminisce 90s alternative, and coastal influenced shoegaze all into a very ruminating rock aesthetic. With misty, yet succulent vocals that crescendo from whispers to passionate pleas, it somehow manages to be both cerebral and existentially extroverted. The warm, endearing texture of the track really fortifies their mission to create cinematic adventures. The full-bodied production and vision reminds me of what Mumford & Sons have done on their latest album: a well-crafted and alluring emotional evolution that veers on a surreal out-of-body listening experience. Luckily, there's more on the horizon with their upcoming EP Cody.
