How do you capture the current soundscape in indie music while remaining inventive and original? Just ask Los Angeles' own Forebear, since that's exactly the experience they resonate in their latest single, People's Champ. It's quite incredible how they weave a psych-folk undercurrent, with stimulating classical strings that reminisce 90s alternative, and coastal influenced shoegaze all into a very ruminating rock aesthetic. With misty, yet succulent vocals that crescendo from whispers to passionate pleas, it somehow manages to be both cerebral and existentially extroverted. The warm, endearing texture of the track really fortifies their mission to create cinematic adventures. The full-bodied production and vision reminds me of what Mumford & Sons have done on their latest album: a well-crafted and alluring emotional evolution that veers on a surreal out-of-body listening experience. Luckily, there's more on the horizon with their upcoming EP Cody.

Alt Rising Acts Raw Fabrics released a new single off their upcoming EP this week, and it's as awesome as it gets. Move Over is reminiscent of a vibe of both Neon Trees and The Strokes, but with an edgier and more contemplative sound. The track carries an anxiously guttural bass line with infectiously powerful vocals, patterned in a defined rhythmic texture that leaves you ruminating and revitalized. It's the reverberating rock anthem you've been asking for, packaged in an alternative radio hit. Move over, Raw Fabrics will not let anything drag them off their path of being the next it band in the ever-expanding alt scene.
Vancouver power pop band The Sylvia Platters have just released a new single entitled Reelin’ In The Years. The four piece group composed of Nick and Tim Ubels, Simon Tressel, and familiar face Jeffery Trainor of Western Jaguar, crank out a short but energy packed surf-rock track. With fervently flowing guitar and bass lines evoking crashing coastal waves, the song is reminiscent of that of FIDLAR meets Blink-182. What makes this track so epically their own is an unexpected vibrant sax hook, played by Matt Tressel, which just blends right into their edgy punkish sound dynamic. It’s the perfect soundtrack to your Summer-anticipatory Friday.
We're absolutely thrilled to premiere CHORD's new music video for their single Science concurrently with their Alt Rising Acts feature. Science is one of the more darker, edgier and electronic tracks off the group's Second Album Initiative, reminiscent of Depeche Mode and indicative of their more evolved and expressive sound. The cerebral track is created into an choreographed illusion by world-class dancers Simone Salvaggio and Jessica Aiello. CHORD describes the video as "a track we are particularly proud of not only because it is one of our own favourites but mainly because two world class dancers (who regularly perform on Broadway [in] New York) chose it to choreograph one of their dances. We thought this was amazing and decided to fly over to Italy where they [were] performing at the moment and make a video with them." Truly an amazing creation, full of soul. Stream the video below, then be sure to stay up to date and support CHORD via their Twitter, Facebook, Bandcamp, and Main Site. Our friends In Place have just released a new instrumental single. Listen to The Pet, a fantastic atmospheric instrumental with intriguing guitar development, driving beats, and even some beautifully melancholic trombone lines. It’s three minutes of comfort that you really need on a cold February day
In Place is an instrumental duo from Philadelphia, PA. made up of childhood friends Brandon and Justin, the sound is a little moody, slightly chaotic, but controlled with enough warmth to not leave you cold. “The Pet,” recorded at Miner Street Recordings in Philadelphia, PA, will be first of several singles released in 2015.Miner Street Recordings is home to Matt Schimelfenig, sound engineer for great acts such as The War on Drugs, The Menzingers, and Cayetana. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all new projects from our friends In Place. One year ago tomorrow IndieBeat introduced you to the wonderful acoustic Lyonn. One year later, Tyler Gelrud has added a new member, producer-musician Attila Yavuzer, to his formerly solo project and expanded his sound and production because of it. In our review of his second release, Promenade, I said that he had developed a “new edgy, yet seductive pop-rock element to his backgrounds, as well as a whole new layer of dynamic energy.” Incredibly with the duo’s new release, the single Empty Bed off the upcoming EP We”ll Light The Sky, Lyonn has taken the romantic songwriting roots, advanced the energetic pop-rock backgrounds, and yet again transformed into a new alternative force with more electric sounds, dance beats, and a new level of indie songwriting.
IndieBeat is focused on showcasing talent and viewing how that talent develops and progresses, and boy are we proud of where Lyonn is headed. Tyler told us in his Alt Rising Acts interview last year that he was inspired by artists such as Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Passenger, and Paper Route. Well, I’m ecstatic to say that Lyonn has reached the point of artistry where their music is comparable to those legendary groups. The duo’s production, writing, and mix of heartfelt, yearning lyrics and melodies against dynamic, complex, and entrancing backgrounds is impeccable. The best thing about these artists’, including Lyonn’s, music is that they are fitting go-to tracks that you can use to let out your emotions, or just invigorate yourselves with their grooving power. To say more would be a disservice to their music, just listen to this epic track and prepare yourself for more on their debut (as a duo) EP out April 7th. You can own this incredible track next Thursday 2/26. For more info, check out http://www.lyonnmusic.com/ and their Twitter: @LyonnTweets. |
