Sometimes even Summer Mondays can have you feeling down. In these cases, all you want to listen to is an acoustic palette-cleansing song that'll know just how you feel and set you right back on track. That is exactly what singer-songwriter Jessica Mayuga gives you in her latest EP Bummertime.
The EP showcases her raw talent in a stripped-down lofi setting with incredible songwriting and vocal cadence. It's a perfect refreshing contrast to today's complex musical soundscape. Of Bummertime, she writes, "there is a strange theme of bitterness that I don't know much about, but I do know that these songs don't necessarily come from my heart, but possibly yours." That bitterness turned empowerment is captured in What Are You Sad About Leaving Behind, the shortest but most defined track off the 7 song EP. It gives off a vibe reminiscent of Birdy, but with a unique edge that resonates stronger with the slight distortion towards the end of the track. You can really sense the emotional tension in this song, something that makes it so charmingly infectious. |
Relatable through the thoughtful wit and existential angst, each song carries a thoughtful narrative--a signature that Jessica even adds to her reinventions of Lorde and Taylor Swift. Get in on the ground floor by making this the next EP you buy, because we really see a future for Mayuga.
You can buy Bummertime for $3 over on her Bandcamp page. Be sure to follow her on Twitter to stay up to date with this amazing artist. |

Our Artists in Residence Lyonn has just released a new acoustic music video for their single Empty Bed. This is the song that we previously described as "Lyonn has taken the romantic songwriting roots, advanced the energetic pop-rock backgrounds, and yet again transformed into a new alternative force with more electric sounds, dance beats, and a new level of indie songwriting." Watch as Tyler & Attila take the same energy of the track and embody it in a more intimate stripped-down performance. The video was shot at Armada in Knoxville, TN, directed by Douglas McDaniel and engineered by John Tod Baker. Stay tuned for more from our Artist in Residence. For now, be sure to follow their every move over on Twitter and Facebook
