In what could only be fate, Alt Rising Acts and close friends to the blog The Good Wives share a stellar cover of my favorite Blondie track, right in time for my birthday. Continuing their amazing collaborative efforts, the Seattle-based group and producer Neal Harris premiere their reinterpretation of Heart of Glass exclusively on IndieBeat. The track really updates the song to the sound of 2015: with the electronic-atmospheric quality of the track tuned up, the song glistens in new ways. An added layer of edgy nostalgic tension is embedded deep within, a standard characteristic of these guys' touch. There's even incredible instrumental development with that fervent guitar riffage winding about. It's cerebral and futuristic, divine and has me losing my mind. A cover that would make Debbie Harry herself proud.

There's no doubt about it, British artists are dominating the indie/alt scenes with their great music across the board, KICK is no exception. The 4-piece indie rock group from West London make incredibly layered and well developed tunes that just sound eternally classic. The group's sound is simply endearing, fortified by vocals reminiscent of Bastille and a sonic aesthetic on par with TDCC, Bombay Bicycle Club, and a hint of early Kings of Leon. Sao Paulo is all that encapsulated in a feel-good tropical summer track that's equal parts comforting, cultural, and communally inviting. Frenetically exploratory, it's a song that lives up to their "mixed blend of various genres to create their own musical cocktail which is both refreshing and familiar to the ears." Mark my words, here's a band to watch out for.
If you're headed to the beach this holiday weekend, this should definitely be your theme song. Jelly provides you with exhilarating guitar-driven surf rock from none other than Nashville. Interestingly Catchin' Up is more experimental than standard surf tunes: a unique ska-punk vibe in that addicting vocal cadence, singing guitar riffage packaged in a sound reminiscent of Family of the Year's St. Croix, and existential wit found in relatable lyrics such as "maybe I'll impress my dad, become a businessman." Duo Will Aiken and Kyle Buckley sure do live up to their bio statement, in "making music that just feels right." It's a thoughtful dose of cerebral stimulation, all in a completely accessible and craveable track that feels just like a dip in the ocean. Thankfully they just released their Beach Sounds EP last Friday with three equally amazing songs you can dive into. Make sure to stream and buy yourself a copy over on their Bandcamp page.
