Alt Rising Acts and IndieBeat favorites Portrayal have released two new singles following their acclaimed debut album To The Black Sea. We previously described their sound aesthetic as "edgy, mystifying and existentially stimulating music," and the same can be said about both of these electro-shoegaze tracks. Solecism is a more straight-forward rock track, reminiscent of The Strokes meets early Coldplay, with winding ferocious riffage equating to the titular definition of "something deviating from the accepted order" -- a concept that defines Portrayal's unique innovation. Our focus today is on the brooding Sea, a cinematic imagining of sonic surging tides. With the always-alluring vocals leading the ebb and flow of edgy atmospherics and mechanistic bass lines, Sea builds to a breakdown of a vehement synth-surf crescendo which washes upon shore at song's end. It's another soaring depiction of the passionate crafting standard of the UK duo. We cannot wait to hear more from our dear friends Portrayal.
